How car designs cause serious accidents

A car’s manufactured design has a significant impact on the outcome of an accident in Connecticut. The speed at which the vehicle is moving is the most important factor, but the lack of safety features built into the vehicle is another factor to consider. There are numerous car designs that could lead to accident fatalities and injuries.

Seat belts

Seat belts that are designed to protect individuals from harm may cause additional harm during an accident. Belts that are believed to be safe may cause severe whiplash or permanent scars around the neck and torso.

Airbags

Airbags are designed to prevent head injuries that occur when the head violently hits the steering wheel or windshield. The airbags themselves, if poorly designed, may not inflate fully and enough to provide sufficient protection for the head. If an airbag inflates too quickly and with excessive force, it can hit the face like a sheet of rock, causing contusions, lacerations or sudden trauma to the face, neck, chest or internal organs.

Vehicle weight and size

A number of car accidents occur due to a vehicle’s excessively small or large size. People who drive exceptionally small, lightweight vehicles are more likely to die in serious accidents than those who drive large cars, trucks and SUVs. However, those who drive lightweight SUVs or trucks are more likely to be seriously injured in rollover accidents.

Drivers often follow certain techniques to remain safe in their cars, but the type of car, such as the brand and year, affects how safe the vehicle is during an accident due to the safety features involved or lack thereof. It’s important that drivers understand how a vehicle’s design ties into its risks and potential to harm passengers in a crash.
